KUALA LUMPUR: DHS Singapore F&B Operations Training Course has successfully concluded its first graduation ceremony after the pandemic, with 10 graduates receiving their certificates.
The ceremony also saw the launch of the DHS Hospitality Academy Alumni Association and the announcement of a partnership with The Truth Media to sponsor 50% of the tuition fees for 240 Malaysian students.
The training course is designed for Malaysian Chinese youths aged 18 to 45 with no educational background requirements, said media statement issued here recently.
Upon completion of the 6-month program, participants will receive certificates issued by Malaysian government universities and Singapore training institutions, and will be able to find ideal job opportunities in Singapore.
Founder of DHS and President of the Malaysian Service Etiquette Association, Dr S Sri Kumar expressed his relief that the Singapore F&B Operations Training Course, which was relaunched last year, has finally welcomed its first batch of 10 graduates.
Executive Director of Sg Quest, Richard Hu said that the graduates present at the ceremony are a testament to the success of the program.
He shared that the opportunity is the key to success, but personal grasp is also very important.
“Learning is not just a process, but a lifelong journey. We must continue to learn to better equip ourselves,” he said.
Advisor of UPM Education and Training Unit, Dr Kamil highly commended the launch of the Singapore F&B Operations Training Course.
He said that the training program is a very good one, not only providing a way out for Malaysian students, but also providing society with skilled talents.
CEO of DHS, Sanmie Lock revealed that the course is a partially subsidized course with low profit margins, so it is not possible to hold graduation ceremonies at star hotels like other private universities.
“Rather than a graduation ceremony, it is actually just a certificate handover ceremony. It is a very solemn occasion to be able to hold such a ceremony on the campus of UPM today, even though only 4 graduates are attending.”
Despite the small number of graduates in the first batch after the pandemic, DHS has decided to establish an alumni association.
The main purpose of the alumni association is to help Malaysian youths have a place to rely on when they go to Singapore.
The graduation ceremony was attended by guests including Dr S Sri Kumar, Sanmie Lock, National Education Consultant of DHS, Jane Tan and Kamil.
General Manager of Perak Human Capital Development Center, Dr Jagdev Singh Grewal; Executive Director of Sg Quest, Richard Hu; Manager of Student Affairs Department of Sg Quest, Yana; Deputy Chairperson of MCA Federal Territory Group and Chairperson of MCA Kuala Lumpur Tun Razak Women’s Group, Jamelia Looi; Chairperson of MCA Kluang District Council, Gan Lee Chiu; President of Malaysian Funeral Association, Kong Tian Hao; Chairperson of Pertubuhan Pendidikan Sayangi Kluang, Lew Lee Foon; Chairperson of SMJK Naam Kheung Primary School Alumni Association; Pon Chee Heng, and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Truth Media, Lim Hooi Xia also attended the event.
